Schnipsel aus London/Snippets from London

Bald gibts Fotos.

*********************************

I am playing on my friend's MacBook, but I can't upload pictures because i am not familiar with all the stuff on it (nor is she...). So, for the time being, I can't show you any of the gazillion pictures I have taken in the past two weeks: pictures of everybody's children and grandchildren, of our trip to Whitstable where i finally got my amazing crab tart, our long walks along the Canal and in Queen's Wood, and our three-day trip to Hastings and St. Leonard's, where several of my London friends have decamped to and bought flats and houses for a fraction of the prices in London, where no-one can afford to live anymore... I loved Hastings. The long promenade along the seafront, the many Victorian buildings, reminders of the city's heyday as a holiday destination, before cheap foreign travel sent it into decline. Now, the DFLs (down/from London) are doing a brave job buying everything up and gentrifying the town, which here seems to be a blessing. A nice mix of cockney day trippers, indigenous Hastings people and trendies who raid the many junk shops to furnish their super stylish flats. Many cafes, a charmingly decrepit old town, a brand new pier, loud brassy rides for children, and a lot of waves...
This also happened: Gel's 100-year-old Mum fell and got up again, a wedding in Islington Town Hall, a heat wave and a sultry evening... and more to come.
Greeting from GB. Fotos next week.

  1. Looking forward to seeing photos of that old Hasting converted into anew Hasting. One question, if Londoners are leaving London, who is staying there then??

Lieber Gruss, Anne
