Reisen

During the following days, we drove to Nazaré on the coast - enchanting little town up on the rocks, where women are dressed in some sort of national costume. There were blankets and cushions hung outside all the houses to air, and washing everywhere. I think we must have hit the first sunny day there. We ate tons of fresh fish - grilled sardines, monkfish stew, dourada - tasty with a simple salad and the delicious local dry white wine. Before the food arrives, they give you olives and a local goat cheese which tastes wonderfully creamy and fresh.

Onwards to a little town with a charming food market and a café in a park, Caldas da Rainha. Then to Obidos, a place a woman at the petrol station had recommended (historic Roman town with a wall and such). she had written"Ginja de Obidos" down for us, which we assumed to be a special place but could not find. Walking through Obidos, we realized it was the famous local cherry liqueur - DUH! That was day two, then, we slept in Nazaré in a charming "Pensao" overlooking the vast sandy beach.
