My expererience is that goodness alone will not change the world, as our whole economic system is built on the assumption of rational self-interest. But there is no harm in being aware of our privileged situation and of a few food facts. I am very happy, for example, with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Jamie Oliver raising shoppers' consciousness about over-fished types of fish. Anyone who promotes eating tuna and cod now should be ignored, or lightly biffed. And who knows, maybe all these anti-meat eating books will do some good in the end. But what I REALLY don't like is all that foodie faddy stuff - cupcakes are SOO last year, bring on the pies! What - you are still using TRUFFLE OIL? Tapas? SO last century - sashimi is where it's at in this new slim, electronic age. Foamed soup, anyone?
