Daheim, da zaubere ich im Nu einen Teller Nudeln mit frischen Gemüse und getrockneten Tomaten. Richtig vegetarisch! Ist das denn so schwer, Leute? Ihr seid doch Profis!
This post is a lament. Lamenting the sad efforts of the many country inns we frequent during our Sunday outings with Mother. Admittedly, she is a picky eater. But so much of the stuff you find in a Bavarian Gasthaus should never have seen the light of day. For a start, it's all meat, and sausages, and meat hidden in potato dishes, in aspic. fried. boiled. roasted. with onions. on top of salad.
OK. Some of this meat is really good. But what if you want NO meat? There is gloopy pasta dripping with cheese and onion rings. There is of course vegetables with a fried egg. And the salad platter - OOPS! comes with grilled turkey strips.
Mum is beginning to tire of our lunch outings. And she doesn't like to see her plate piled high. At home, I make a quick pasta dish - bavette with a selection of spring greens and sundried tomatoes. Not so difficult, is it, folks?
