This is the kind of cake they make - I don't know why I bother!
I recommend following Delia's recipe, she never does anything wrong! I think you can safely leave the glycerine out...but hey, not everyone cuts corners like I do.
My cake did not rise high enough for the required "cut horizontally to make two layers" of the German recipe. So, I made a one-layer sticky chocolate cake in the end.
