"Er schüttelt seinen Körper und singt immer wieder I'm transforming, I'm vibrating – look at me now. Dann hebt er förmlich ab: I'm glowing, I'm flying – look at me now.

I went to the movies last night. And it was brilliant. I didn't really want to see the film "20,000 days on earth", although I have loved the music of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds for a long time; I even went to see them in 1985 at the Hammersmith Palais (thank you Martin!) And we own the great CD, "Push the sky away".  I just thought Nick Cave was a poser and a bit of a dick, there is something vampirical, morbid, almost scary about him. But - surprise, I came out of the film liking him (the man who played Nick Cave) much better: he has a wry sense of humour, is able to laugh about himself (the last will and testament which was to establish a Nick Cave Memorial Museum) and of course, has bags of style (the car conversations). He probably even thinks kittens are cute. And the final song - Jubilee Street - just blows you away (there is nothing yummy about him singing "I have love in my tummy" though!
In the Guardian review of the film, Mark Kermode adds that "As much as this is a film about Cave, it is also a cinematic portrait of Brighton or, more precisely, the idea of Brighton". Which is where  the man from Wangaratta lives now.
Afterwards, we stood outside the cinema and worked out how old he is: 20,000 days...
Here is a younger, equally gothic version of the man, in his PJ Harvey days.
