Omas Suppe, oder the mists of thyme

One of those foggy mornings yesterday, a day that starts with general invisibility. I drove to the lake, to see what it looks like, invisible. The way led me through this fairy-tale wood.
***
Hardly any mistiness over the lake, just a thin band remaining

Back home, I felt like a healthy, live-giving soup. I remembered one of the poor peoples' soups my Gran used to make, and made it in my latest soup plate from Lisbon's flea market:
Toss a couple of handful of oats into a pat of melted butter in a saucepan, stir and let it brown a little
Add vegetable broth* and let the mixture thicken, then add more and cook on lowest heat until it's a nice soupy consistency. Season with salt and some thyme leaves.
Poach an egg per person in the soup, and sprinkle chopped parsley over it.
You will be surprised how tasty this is.
*For the vegetable stock, I chopped the less attractive bits of cabbage, sprouts, leeks and cauliflower and left it all to simmer away in plenty of water, with a sprig of thyme.
Smells scary, but tastes good and is mega good for you!

By mid-day, the fog had condensed and drifted away from the wet fields
