Hello I’m back in Germany, laptop is back in working order. The painting by Mr. Turner is to show that we found time for a visit to the Tate Britain, despite the heatwave.

At home with Geraldine, neighbours again for two weeks

In meinem früheren Haus  steht noch derselbe Esstisch, das alte Klavier, und drüber hängt ein Bild das Steve für mich gemalt hat. Ich muss es wohl mal in einer Nacht-und-Nebelaktion rausholen.

In my former home, many things have remained the same - the dining table, the old piano, and the picture of the Oxo Tower on the wall. Painted for me by Steve. I'm going to have to steal it back.

Wenn ich in London essen gehe, kann ich nicht genug Eggs Florentine, Cilbir oder sonstige köstliche Eierspeisen kriegen. Wieso machen die Cafés hier das so selten?

When in London, I eat loads of eggs. Eggs florentine, Turkish eggs, eggs and soldiers... can't get them here in the Bavarian back country.

Man freut sich über den gestürzten Boris. Jetzt müssen nur noch die restlichen "Volksvertreter" gehen

The whole country is suddenly delighted about Boris' long goodbye. What took them so long? And what happens about the rest of that useless bunch?

 

Zu meiner Zeit gab's keine Boulangeries in meiner Gegend

There weren't any boulangeries in N19 and N4 in my day...

 

Tee ist überhaupt das Wichtigste. Wenn Besuch kommt, wird als erstes Wasser aufgesetzt. Und als damals unser Haus abbrannte, kam schon die Nachbarin mit einem Tablett voll mit Teebechern - und viel Zucker! Jetzt also abwarten und Tee trinken, bis zum nächsten Besuch.

 

A cup of tea for every occasion. When the doorbell rings it's "put the kettle on". And when our house was on fire, back in the day, the neighbours were down like a shot with a tray full of mugs of tea. "Put some sugar in, love, for the shock!"
